Mount Olympus and the god Apollo
In Greek mythology, Olympus was the highest mountain in Greece, situated on the border between Macedonia and Thessaly. It was believed that its summit touched the sky, and there stood the mansions built by the god of the volcano. The mountain is considered the place of the major gods: Jupiter, Juno, Mars, Mercury, Minerva, Venus, Diana, Apollo, Ceres, Neptune, Vulcan and Vesta. The men could not see the gates of Olympus because they were covered by thick clouds. Jupiter was the chief judge, set out the fate of mankind and in a meeting between the gods.
poets and artists moved in the highest seat of the gods and that is why they were painted with clouds around Jupiter, along with the children. The depiction of Olympus led to a beloved painter baroque theme, and also decorate the facades of the villas and noble palaces.
An important deity was Apollo who slew the serpent Python was a child that was infesting the region near Delphi, the site became home to the shrine and the cult of Apollo. He could be belligerent and disastrous and cause plagues and sudden death, in fact it was him to release the epidemic in the camp greek during the Trojan War. Apollo invented the rejoicing of the music with his lyre at banquets, and who was leading the choir of the Muses was Musagete said.
Apollo is often depicted naked, with a laurel wreath on his head, sometimes wears a long tunic and playing the lyre, though rarely accompanied by a snake with three heads (dog, wolf, lion) mythical figure attributed to the Sun God .
