APOLLO AND THE OLYMPIAN
Mount Olympus and the God Apollo
Legend has it that on top of Mount Olympus, the gods lived and which, because of the thick blanket of clouds, their peaks touching the sky. It is the highest mountain in Greece and it was thought that it rises to the top the abodes of the gods made by Vulcan, the god of fire.
Mount, since the days of Homer, is considered the place where the twelve deities reside, and that because of the dense cloud cover that hides the gates of Olympus, is invisible men.

The twelve gods were:
Jupiter, king of the gods represented by an eagle
Neptune, god of the sea;
Saturn, god of time;
Cybele, the Phrygian deity considered the mother earth
Diana, goddess of hunting, accompanied by dogs;
Mercury, messenger of the gods;
Vulcan, the god of fire;
Ceres, goddess of the earth accompanied by dragons who pull his chariot;
Juno, wife of Jupiter, Venus
, accompanied by scantily clad goddess Love;
Mars, the god of war with helmet and spear;
Apollo, god of music driving the chariot of the Sun through the sky drawn by four horses, is often depicted as a young man of rare beauty.
Son of Zeus and Leto, twin brother of Diana, is remembered as the god of the sun and beauty, moral order, of oracles and prophecies, music and poetry.
The story goes that as a child kills the serpent Python. The site near Delphi, where he was the reptile, became the seat of the sanctuary and the cult of Apollo, where God communicates the oracles of the gods and men.
Apollo can be belligerent and disastrous, as it helps humans. It was he who spread the epidemic in the camp during the Trojan War greek, but he drives away evil.

Apollo is often depicted naked with a laurel wreath around his head. He wears a long tonic as a musician and plays the harp.
